Welcome to our blog about Tuberculosis and Helminths!
We are five aspiring immunologists from diverse backgrounds, Africa, Europe and Asia. We met at the Immunology in the Tropics Course, organised by Makerere University/ UVRI Centre of Excellence in Infection and Immunity (http://www.muii.org.ug) March 2017.Besides learning about Helminth Immunology, we students also learned about how to create a blog. We are happy to show you one of our first but not our last. In this blog, we are going to explain to you the Tuberculosis and Helminth marriage, the disease burden and, suggestions on how to put an end to this marriage.
We are going to discuss the following topics:
- Society and the disease burden
- Scientific background
- Exploring the Coinfection - Underlying mechanisms
- The critic's view
- Innovative therapies
We would like to appreciate Dr. Stephen Cose who has been our mentor for this blog. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the lecturers on the course: Prof. Richard Grencis, Dr. Hermelijn Smits and, Dr. Shona Wilson. Thank you for imparting your knowledge to us.
Emmanuella, Beatrice, Alice, Hina and Sophie
